My first time in Antarctica could have not been more amazing. I come from a fairly unknown tropical country in the northeastern part of South America called Suriname, and for me to see an iceberg for the first time is unique. And then to come across so many at once where some are probably as huge as my hometown … just wow.Icebergs
I booked a cruise with Quark expeditions, and went with their Ocean Adventurer ship. We’ve embarked from Ushuaia on the 6th of February 2024 and set sail to before heading to the Antarctic peninsula.South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands

Paulet Island
Paulet Island, a small uninhabited island located in the northern part of the Antarctic Peninsula in the Weddell Sea. The island is of volcanic origin and is characterized by its rocky terrain and icy surroundings. Geothermal heat keeps parts of the island ice-free.
One notable feature of Paulet Island is its historical significance related to polar exploration. In 1902, the Swedish Antarctic expedition led by Otto Nordenskjöld sought refuge on the island after their ship, the Antarctic, was crushed by ice. The expedition members managed to survive through the harsh Antarctic winter by living in a stone hut they constructed on Paulet Island.
